A Few Words About Us
“Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.”
John 17:3
THE DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN IS OUR “CANONICAL DOMICILE”—
Our desire to evangelize comes from a conviction in the faith and the true foundation of the Magisterium of the Church to speak up about the need for conversion to Jesus Christ.
The fervent desire to let Jesus Christ be known, loved, and served lead us to surrender unconditionally to an evangelization style new in its methods, its expression, and its ardor.
We, the Preachers of Christ and Mary, were founded in Villavicencio, Colombia, in the Archdiocese of Villavicencio on September 5, 1995. The community has been doing missionary work in the Diocese of Brooklyn, NY, since 2004. After a process of discernment made with our respective Bishops and after doing apostolic work for the past 16 years in different parishes of the Diocese, our community, the Preachers of Christ and Mary, decided to make the Diocese of Brooklyn our “canonical domicile.”
The welcoming Mass was celebrated on September 5, 2019, during the 24th anniversary of our order’s founding in Colombia. That day at the ceremony, joy flooded our hearts as we understood that Jesus called us to stay in the Diocese of Brooklyn to serve Him. Our Community of the Preachers of Christ and Mary was founded as a Public Association of the Faithful and belongs to the Diocese of Brooklyn, where it will eventually be consolidated as a new Diocesan Institute of Religious Life. This is, in turn, a huge milestone for us. If it is God's will, the Preachers of Christ and Mary will be the first Religious Community founded in the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens; since the religious communities that have been presently enriching and serving the Diocese were founded in other countries.
We changed our canonical domicile; however, our charisma and apostolate are still the same. We exist in the Church to announce the name of Jesus and to implant his cross in all of the nations. The fervent desire to let Jesus Christ be known, loved, and served lead us to surrender unconditionally to an evangelization style new in its methods, its expression, and its ardor. The sisters, Preachers of Christ and Mary, evangelize through five apostolic facets: the itinerary preaching of the Gospel, the media communication, the Arts, the organization of massive events to celebrate the faith, and the social development. Our desire to evangelize comes from a conviction in the faith and the true foundation of the Magisterium of the Church to speak up about the need for conversion to Jesus Christ, the necessity to love him, to serve him loyally, and to mold everything according to his Word.
